Assistant, Carolina Biodiesel, LLC
The Forest Foundation built a 100K gals/yr biodiesel plant in southern Durham as a part of its Green Business Development Program, with plans to expand operations and redevelop the old, fuel oil terminal site to achieve several hundred thousand gallons of produced and distributed biodiesel made from locally collected waste oils. The plant will be used as a learning lab and will build a number of alternative energy and sustainable business models in a multiphase process. The initial phase involves revitalizing existing infrastructure, securing feedstocks, and collaborating with community organizations. The Forest Foundation is interested in starting a Triangle Carbon Fund to allow community members to offset their carbon footprint with the purchase of biodiesel for non-profits needing transportation. Volunteers/Interns are needed to assist in various components and phases of this project. The Foundation is looking for students with an interest in community-based sustainable development, air pollution, alternative energy, chemical engineering and/or energy policy, good communication and computer skills, and a desire to make a difference. A stipend may be available for qualified individuals. This project may be perfect as a basis for Honor’s, Master’s or Dissertation research. If interested, please contact Marc at marc@theforestfoundation.org.

Marketing and Advertising Coordinator, Greenway Transit Services, LLC
Part of the green transportation service that The Forest Foundation (TFF) helped to develop is the management of a fleet of buses, vans, limos, and bicycle-powered rickshaws in the Chapel Hill and Durham area. Greenway needs help with tour and driver coordination and management, and an assistant to help with the marketing of the transportation services and the development of new tours: farm, eco, and restaurant/brewery. Greenway is raising funds to outfit one of its buses as a mobile farmers’ market to serve food deserts and dense urban environments. Interested students need to have an interest in alternative transportation, green business and marketing. Contact Marc Dreyfors at info@greenwayrides.com.
