Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is seeking a Local Foods Recovery Intern.
Position: Local Foods Recovery Intern May 14 through August 16
16 hours per week
This intern will support IFFS programs to assist farmers and gardeners in donating fresh produce to feed people in need. Through our Field Gleaning program we visit area farms and glean excess produce. Plant a Row for the Hungry provides opportunities for gardeners to donate homegrown produce through drop-off sites in the community. This internship is unpaid.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community. Through food recovery, farming and nutrition education, and economic empowerment programs, we seek to create a waste-free, sustainable local food system with access to nutritious food for all.
Duties
- Under supervision of the Local Produce Coordinator, procure fresh produce from local farms
- Recruit and schedule volunteer groups
- Work on outreach to farmers
- Supervise field gleanings
- Research opportunities for local foods recovery
- Represent IFFS at community events
Qualifications
- Strong communicator
- Resourceful, adaptable, creative thinker
- Self-motivated, able to work with little structure
- Identify with the vision, mission, and values of IFFS
- Proficient with Office applications
- Good organizational skills
- Able to lift 40 pounds
- Able to work with and respect people of all ages and backgrounds
- Demonstrated interest in local food systems and access is a plus
- Experience doing farm work is a plus
- Experience supervising volunteers is a plus
- Public speaking experience is a plus
- Some Saturday availability needed
