The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department is looking for recycling volunteers for two upcoming events.
Recycling volunteers are needed for two upcoming special events! Recycling volunteers make waste reduction happen in a major way at area special events—in some cases more than 85% is diverted from landfill disposal through composting and recycling! Recycling hours are eligible for high school service learning requirements and volunteering for recycling makes a great activity for scout, church or other civic group to TRULY make a difference in our community!
Sign up for one or both of these upcoming special events by contacting Muriel Williman (919) 968-2788 or email mwilliman@co.orange.nc.us
Earth Action Day, Saturday April 14, Southern Community Park in Chapel Hill.
Volunteer shifts are 10-1 (includes set up), 1-4, and 4-7 (includes clean up). Volunteers will help staff trash sorting stations to make sure compostables, recyclables and true trash go in the right containers. “Roving recyclers” will sweep the event grounds to help keep the event as trash free as possible!
Hog Day, May 18 and 19, River Park in Hillsborough
Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and BBQ sandwich!
Volunteer shifts are:
Friday May 18 from 4-7PM help set up trash sorting stations and distribute bins throughout the festival grounds.
Saturday May 19: 9AM-12noon, 12-3PM, 3-6PM, 6-9PM. Volunteers will staff the trash sorting stations, rove to collect recyclables throughout the event, help the BBQ tent and other food vendors reduce waste and recycle as much as possible. It is a HUGE event, we work hard, but we have fun!
At both events the Orange County Solid Waste Management Department will host an information booth where volunteers can check in, hang out, and talk trash! All recycling volunteers will have gloves, hand sanitizer and endless thanks.
