Thorp Takes Innovation Initiative to Varsity Theater

UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp’s ongoing initiative to promote innovation around the university community continued last night with an event at the Varsity Theater entitled “Global Health: What’s Technology Got to Do With It?” The collaboration of speeches from medical and technological professionals was sponsored by Ted X Chapel Hill and IntraHealth International.

Royal Oak residents to speak out against environmental hazards

..On Friday, June 3, Royal Oak Concerned Citizens Association, in conjunction with the Center for Civil Rights of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, will speak about the environmental threats and hazards facing the Royal Oak neighborhood and will propose strategic solutions.

UNC Students Enhance Work Environment For The Disabled

A senior design project by two UNC students placed third in the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH) Ability One Network Design Challenge. For the past seven years, the Student Design Competition has been under the supervision of Richard Goldberg, an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Curriculum in Applied Sciences and Engineering.

UNC faculty win awards for science, energy work

Three professors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have received nearly $2 million in research awards from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy. UNC officials said Erik J. Alexanian, assistant professor of chemistry, and Jason L. Metcalfe, assistant professor of mathematics, won National Science Foundation honors for exemplary research and education by young teacher-scholars. Rene Lopez, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, was awarded by the Energy Department for demonstrating outstanding work early in his career.
