Colorado State University is accepting applications for a sustainability coordinator in Housing and Dining Services.  Application materials are due on Monday, June 27, 2011. 
The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for providing project management for sustainability initiatives within Housing and Dining Services. The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with other HDS staff to integrate sustainable practices into construction, maintenance, purchasing, dining, student housing, and custodial procedures within the department and in collaboration with campus and community partners. This hands-on position will also actively engage residential students in sustainability programs and initiatives.

Housing and Dining Services is the largest department on the Colorado State campus with over 400 full-time staff and over 1,000 hourly and student staff members. More than 6,000 students live in campus housing. Conference Services and Pingree Park, CSU's mountain campus, are also part of Housing and Dining Services. Sustainability is one of four key priorities for Housing and Dining Services and the department is committed to energy and waste reduction, material reuse, and student and staff engagement in sustainability initiatives.

The salary range for this position is $38,000 - $42,000.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum two years professional experience in coordinating, organizing, and implementing sustainability programs and events in higher education (two years of student experience may be substituted for one year of professional experience)
  • Demonstrated project management experience and collaboration skills in working with different committees, organizations, and audiences
  • Strong communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully create new projects within a university setting, understanding of how to institutionalize new sustainability efforts, and how to develop programs that advance departmental and university strategic objectives and mission
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resource conservation and sustainability policy, practices, and processes
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills to chair meetings, train staff, engage students, problem-solve, and evaluate business needs for existing and new projects
  • Ability to write reports, create presentations, and work proficiently in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to work with divergent views and foster collaborations across diverse constituencies/populations
  • Grant-writing experience
  • Degree in environmental science or environmental communications
  • Job Responsibilities
  • Provide project management expertise for departmental sustainability initiatives including planning, implementing, and reporting results for sustainability projects
  • Provide resources and support for integrating sustainable practices in the areas of: construction, maintenance, purchasing, dining, student housing, and custodial
  • Lead a student eco-leader program in the residence halls and serve as a liaison to the Live Green Community, a residential learning community in Summit Hall
  • Chair the Live Green Team and serve as a liaison to department, campus, and community organizations, committees, and task forces as needed
  • Serve as project leader for Dining Services on operation of an in-vessel composter, farm-to-table programs, local food purchases, and other areas of sustainable dining
  • In partnership with the department's Facility Planner, develop a standard for sustainable building management, energy management, and utility and waste management
  • Collaborate with Operations Management to coordinate and implement green purchasing guidelines, materials recycling, and sustainable cleaning, maintenance, and operation practices
  • Provide expertise for sustainable conference and retreat initiatives including zero and near-zero waste events for Conference Services, Pingree Park, and Dining Services
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management and other campus partners on greenhouse gas inventories, climate action plans, and student engagement initiatives including RecycleMania, energy hall competitions, and energy and environmental education and outreach programs
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for students and staff to increase knowledge of sustainable practices
  • Assist with strategic planning and budget management for sustainability projects and chair the HDS Sustainability Fund Committee
  • Collaborate with the Communications Office to coordinate sustainability reports, surveys, grants, articles, and content for the sustainability website
  • Other duties as assigned
